Junior Tennis

Junior tennis is thriving at the club. The range of coaching and competitive opportunities gives our players everything they need to really get into tennis. Download our Junior Membership form here. If you wish to pay by standing order please click here.

What We Offer

Members can access free coaching on Saturday mornings and take part in a match play night on Monday evenings. We run a ‘Junior Club Shield’ in which players are divided into four teams that compete against each other on the last Saturday of each month. Extra points can be gained by attending sessions, playing in matches or tournaments, representing the Club and other tennis activities. Coaching themes for the remaining Saturdays run alongside those delivered throughout the week in the programme to further enhance the players’ skills in a chosen area.

Saturday 9.15am - 10.15am  Challenger Players
Saturday 10.15am - 11.30am Improver Challenger Players
Saturday 11.30am - 12.45pm  Top Club Team
Monday 4.00pm - 5.30pm  All Invited For Matchplay Night

The juniors at the club enjoy use of the facilities with access to the courts through their organised sessions and from Tue - Fri 4.00 - 6.40pm via the coaching programme. Juniors are encouraged to use any free courts available throughout the weekend. There is a full programme of competitions organised for the junior players; including one day LTA Grade 5 events alongside 3 x 6 day Grade 4 / 3 events per year. Members can access our Club Championships, The Road to Wimbledon and represent us in various AEGON county/premier leagues.

Junior Coaching

Throughout the term time, the Coaching is split into Mini Tennis, Challenger and Performance squads.

Mini Tennis 3-10 years

The club runs pre school, Red, Orange and Green Mini Tennis coaching for children age 3 upwards. At this stage of learning, the children are learning the FUNdamentals of the game. Co-ordination, agility, reactions, balance and perception are key to helping the player develop their athletic potential. Basic tactics and FUNdamental techniques are taught within the sessions. The players have the opportunity to attend at least 2 sessions per week to learn their skills. Special stickers are given for attendance and awards stickers to fill in Mini Tennis Books are won every half term. Download autumn term application form here. Extra training takes place throughout each holiday in a special Mini Tennis Ace club (see holiday courses below). We also run Mini Tennis Rally Award days (click here for more info) and Tots Tennis for 2-5 year olds (click here to find out more).

Challenger 10-18 years

Once out of Mini Tennis, the player can attend Club Challenger squads. This gives existing players a chance to sharpen their skills on a full size court with real balls. These squads also provide a solid start to the older beginner player. More complex challenges are given to the player with co-ordination, agility, reactions, balance and perception still forming the major part of the training outside of technical and tactical learning. The players have the opportunity to attend at least 2 sessions per week. Extra training takes place throughout each holiday in special tennis or pro sport camps which offer a great way to have fun and improve. Download autumn term application form here.

Performance 4-18 years

The more committed player that has the potential to achieve county standard as a minimum may be invited to attend club performance squads. Training is performance orientated and themes are developed in line with National Guidelines. Technical, Tactical, Physical and Mental Training are delivered throughout the squads which increase in number and intensity as the players move out of mini tennis. A competitive programme is offered to the player to help them fulfil a set number of matches to be played per year. Individual lessons are often required to aid the technical learning. Extra training throughout the holidays takes place at strategic times of the year to help participants on the programme peak at important times. Those committed and skillfull enough to be in our top squad enjoy a full competitive schedule, fitness programme, technical coaching, sports science, physiotherapy, squads, individuals and tournament trips with coaches. All Performance training is by invite only. For more details contact our Director of Coaching Neil Frankel.
